Ramtech Takes Part in Dallas’ Love Field Makeover

June 15, 2010

The new $519 million capital improvement project slated for Dallas’ Love Field will now include two modular buildings provided by Mansfield, Texas-based Ramtech Building Systems. Two buildings totaling 10,752 square feet will be used by Southwest Airlines and the Dallas Love Field Aviation Administration as administrative and executive office space during the expected four-year construction project. To prepare for the end of the Wright Amendment restrictions which currently prohibit long-haul flights, Love Field plans to replace the two existing terminals with a new T-shaped 20-gate terminal. Southwest Airlines is managing the improvement project for the city of Dallas and will have 16 of the gates while Continental Airlines and American Airlines will each have two. Also included in the construction project will be a new baggage claim area, ticketing hall, cargo facility, and police office. The upgrades are being carried out to meet the expected doubling of passenger traffic from the current 4 million passengers to about 8 million annually. The project will be paid for by higher landing fees and gate rentals paid by Southwest and the other airlines. Southwest Airlines has extensive experience in managing other airport improvement projects and carefully considered other modular building suppliers before selecting Ramtech for the project. Both buildings will sit adjacent to each other on isolated piers atop the existing 12 inch concrete. The buildings will be separated by a two-hour site installed firewall, and will feature 9 foot ceiling heights and attic mounted split system HVAC. The administrative office for Southwest will include vinyl covered walls while the executive space for the Airport Administration will have a textured, painted interior. Each building will have a parapet roofline with canopies over the entrances, and 26-gauge commercial steel siding to match the existing structures. The buildings are scheduled to be completed and ready for occupancy by the end of September of this year.
